Functional beverages and shots are foodstuffs intended for particular nutritional uses. They are most willingly used by physically active people, although they can also be recommended to overworked and vitality-deprived people. Thanks to the liquid consistency, they are comfortable to use even during a workout. In addition, they absorb easily while not burdening the digestive tract, therefore they do not cause stomach pains, bloating or colic. Functional beverages are usually composed of mineral components and carbohydrates, which are the main source of energy. Sometimes they are also enriched with caffeine, guarana or plant extracts. They quench thirst and hydrate better than ordinary water, as well as they supplement electrolytes lost with sweat and ensure the maintenance of a constant level of glucose in the blood. Shots, in turn, are much more concentrated, so already a small portion – one or two large sips – is enough to achieve the desired effect.
